Dr. John Cramer's "The Lentz Soliton FTL Drive" Article

I wanted to write a short post to acknowledge the first online article I found to talk about my hyper-fast soliton work. Back in November, long before the press release while my manuscript was still under peer review, Dr. John Cramer wrote a perspective on my paper in his long-standing science column "The Alternate View" in Analog: Science Fiction and Fact Magazine. John also happens to be professor emeritus at my own Ph.D. institution, the University of Washington. You can find the article in the archives of the Analog website (https://www.analogsf.com). ReplyDeleteFirstlt, target to send out messages at FTL speeds. That should reduce energy requirements substantially (NASA, ESA spacecraft). We are a race that has not send humans beyond the moon so far, so there is no hurry in getting to the stars.
Secondly, plan to send out very small devices such as cameras in various EM spectrum. Those should also have low(ish) energy requirements.
Thirdly, forget about Proxima and Alpha Centauri for the first few flights. Send cameras perpendicular to the our galactic plane, so that we can get a grand view of our home. Stars will follow, of course.
Finally, why so pessimistic ? In a millennium ? Really ? With smart people such as you around, we should be sending messages (at the very least) in a few years. I will be 56 in less than a month, so please get this done quickly.
