The Judgement Call Podcast
Hello All,
I was on The Judgement Call Podcast with Torsten Jacobi recently. The recording can be found on the podcast website (https://judgmentcallpodcast.com/2021/06/94-erik-lentz-how-to-build-an-actual-warp-drive/) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYBD5z_LDSQ). We touched on a number of topics, including faster than light space travel, extra dimensions, the simulation hypothesis, and non-local phenomena. Torsten was an engaging host and, while I am not an expert on every topic we discussed, we had fun exploring possibilities.
Have a great Sunday,
Erik
Does a hyperbolic 5th dimension facilitate the construction of a warp drive?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what you mean. Can you please clarify?
DeleteThank you for all your work into making warp drives a reality.
DeleteIn your work to decrease the energy requirments for warp drives have there been any indications that different energy distributions might allow for dean drives or similar? And in solving the quantum inequalites could there be a less powerful warp field that allows for the decrease of the effective mass of a vehicle with respect to the surrounding spacetime curvature?
Lastly if you are a fan of Scifi you might enjoy Alistair Reynold's Revelation Space Series.
Would an extra dimension help in the Warp Drive construction? (that's what I meant....would an extra dimension reduce the energy costs?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the clarification. Extra dimensions have been shown to be useful in lower the energy conditions, at least of the Alcubierre solution (https://arxiv.org/abs/0712.1649v6).
DeleteHave you made any progress on energy reduction in the meantime?
ReplyDeleteI would like to know why so many people without a physics degree like myself have no problem with concepts like this. Its a curious thing whether it is culture or maybe this kind of work in physics requires approximation and that is linked with our creativity. But I also have the same question, in a way as to the progress on energy reduction...I don't see many physicists taking the time to work on a problem like this at the moment. So is Eric Lentz phd?
DeleteI guees just Eric can answer your question properly

ReplyDeleteOsvaldo Santos-Pereira gave a talk on this paper at the Marcel Grossmann meeting in July. A recording of the session is available on YouTube (https://youtu.be/NqN1c-2fv8Y?t=6870), which also includes talks by Miguel Alcubierre, Matt Visser, myself, and Alexey Bobrick.
DeleteThanks
DeleteErik have you ever thought about Rindler coordinates? They might lead you into nothing but they might solve the horizon problem
DeleteMuito legal o que vocĂȘ fez. ParabĂ©ns.
ReplyDeleteWhat you do was great. Congratulations.
